Description :

This is an outstanding opportunity to join the new Centre for Cancer Sciences (CCS), an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary group of 35 academics working on cancer research and education.   You will develop the research and teaching components of the CCS including the new BSc and MSci courses in Cancer Sciences.

We wish to appoint a scientist with outstanding potential within the fields of tumour microenvironment, cancer immunology or cancer bioinformatics. The CCS includes groups with strong track records in tumour microenvironment (including tumour microvasculature), breast cancer, acute myeloid leukaemia, prostate cancer, cancers of digestive system (colorectal, oesophageal, liver and bile duct cancer), children’s brain cancers, and melanoma.

You will be supported to build a research group, develop new concepts and principles and learn how to contribute to, design and gain support for research proposals from funding agencies. You will develop skills to devise, advise on and manage learning and research programmes, and will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the CCS via leadership, administrative, management and co-ordination of specific initiatives.

You must have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area, and be able to demonstrate a publication record, ideally with a consistent track record of published research in peer reviewed journals.  Experience and demonstrated success in delivering teaching within an agreed quality framework, preferably in a research intensive higher education establishment, would be an advantage.  You should have excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts to those with limited knowledge as well as to peers, using a range of media.

This  is a full time post however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 18.1 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. This post  is available from 1 August 2020, and possibly earlier, and will be offered on a permanent contract. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor David Bates, tel: 0115 8231135 or email david.bates@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
