Description :

Lancaster University Law School is one of the leading law schools in the UK and is ranked #1 in the North-West of England. It is ranked #1 for employability in the UK (Sunday Times Good University Guide) and attracts praise for its provision. Having responded to potential regulatory changes and the employability agenda, Lancaster University Law School introduced a number of innovations into its curriculum to enhance the student experience. This has included establishing a Law Clinic, Streetlaw and building a £250,000 mock court room that is fully equipped with the latest in digital technologies.

To help us meet our ambitious strategic five-year plan, Lancaster University Law School has reshaped its leadership team. A School Leadership Team has been established which consists of the Head of School, three Associate Heads of School (one of whom will act as Deputy Head of the School) and the Senior School Administrator. The School Leadership Team will have strategic responsibility for the operation of the School.

We wish to appoint a Professor of Law, who will have a substantive, indeterminate contract. However, for an initial period of three years, this person will also serve as the Associate Head (Student Experience). You will take ownership of the student experience at UG and PG levels. They will help us respond to the NSS, PTES, PRES and subject-level TEF. In conjunction with other members of the School Leadership Team, you will assist the School in reviewing its Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy.

This position is available on either a Teaching & Research or Teaching & Scholarship basis. Lancaster University is proud that its staff can reach professor through different academic routes, and the Law School is firmly committed to this as a principle. Both those on Teaching & Research or Teaching & Scholarship tracks have strong institutional and School-level support to create an environment that encourages and supports them. This includes, for example, sabbatical leave open to both Teaching & Research and Teaching & Scholarship staff.

You will be expected to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, ideally on a Core. This post is available in any area of law, although an interest in Employment Law, Company Law or other aspects of private law will be an advantage. For those seeking employment on the Teaching & Research pathway, a record of being awarded external research funding would be an advantage.

Lancaster University Law School has 50 academic members of staff and nearly 1,000 students. As a Law School, we are committed to having a positive impact on people's lives as well as academic excellence. We have plans to continue our growth, and also to continue innovating our teaching. We have a strong culture of knowledge-exchange and engagement, something we wish to continue to grow.
