Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position, with a 1-year duration starting from early July 2019, to develop vehicle models for model-based suspension control and vehicle state estimation.

The post is part of a collaborative project with a leading supplier of automotive suspension components. A budget for travel and other expenses will be provided, and there will be several opportunities to attend related conferences. The project outcomes will be evaluated on state-of-the-art vehicle demonstrators.

The successful candidate must have a strong background in vehicle dynamics and simulation, and should be a holder of a PhD degree in one of the areas of automotive engineering or mechanical engineering. Also, expertise in the following areas is highly desirable:

Model-based control; Rapid control prototyping; Suspension control.

The appointee will join Surrey’s Centre for Automotive Engineering of the Mechanical Engineering Sciences Department, which has research interests in a wide range of topics, including vehicle dynamics control, automated driving, tyre dynamics, electric powertrains, vehicle aerodynamics and novel transmission systems for electric and hybrid electric vehicles.
