Description :

The Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre (SPMIC), University of Nottingham is seeking to recruit a postdoctoral research fellow in the field of brain imaging to work at high (3 Tesla) and ultra-high field MRI (7 Tesla) for an 18 month post.

The successful candidate will apply fMRI and MRI sequences and develop novel analysis methods to understand the human brain. Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for applying and developing MRI methods, including BOLD and non-BOLD methods at 3 and 7 Tesla.

At the 3T, the developed protocols at will be applied to the study of changes in the brain in response to exercise and ageing, and fatigue. At 7T, we aim to study the human somatosensory cortex, the relationship to columnar and laminar structures which are fractions of a millimetre, and how these structures are re-organized over time (plastically) in the brains of patients with sensory loss.

The post-holder will be expected to be independent in fMRI data acquisition and analysis techniques such as BOLD (Blood-Oxygen-Level-Dependent) and ASL (Arterial Spin Labelling). Matlab programming skills and knowledge in FSL or and mrTools are essential. The post-holder will assist in the data analyses, preparation of publications and downstream funding applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for writing up the work to contribute to published outcomes.

The post holder will be expected to undertake research independently, as well as working as part of a team. This will include using approaches, methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of research. Therefore, the role holder will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods and extend their research portfolio.

This post will be offered on a fixed term contract until 31 December 2020. This post is available on a full time (36.25 hours per week) or part time (a minimum of 20 hours per week basis.
