Head of UK/EU Student Recruitment, Outreach and Admissions (048919)

As part of a newly created Chief Student Officer Directorate, the University of Surrey is seeking to recruit a talented individual to lead the areas of UK/EU student recruitment, outreach and admissions. This new senior role has been created to bring together these core and important areas, working alongside the International Student Recruitment Manager, the Head of Access and Participation and under the overall direction of the Chief Student Officer. The individual sought will embody the University’s values and demonstrate these internally and externally to the organisation, encouraging diversity and inclusion and developing an open and support culture.

This role, is crucial to the success of the institution, being responsible for:

UK/EU student recruitment activity, including significant events e.g. open days and applicant days, Outreach, as part of our widening participation agenda, including work with schools Admissions and enquiries for UK, EU, International students entering into our programmes at all levels of study: Foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate taught and research

This includes taking responsibility for leading and managing the UK/EU recruitment, outreach and admissions staff in the promotion of the University to targeted groups and to actively support change and support new ways of working within the team and the University.

The Head of UK/EU Student Recruitment, Outreach and Admissions will devise and implement strategies to ensure student recruitment and widening participation targets are met, working closely with academic departments and Marketing to determine the attractiveness of their portfolio and how to promote their disciplines to schools across the UK and EU through various engagement activities. In Admissions, the team aims to deliver a professional, fair and efficient applicant experience, whilst providing academic departments with advice on process and acting as the institutional repository for qualifications expertise.

As part of the Chief Student Officer’s leadership team, we will foster an integrated, agile and team work approach; driving forward University strategy and operations as part of a continued drive for a joined-up student journey.

You should have:

Experience of managing high-performing UK/EU student recruitment teams and delivering on recruitment targets Adeep understanding of national priorities for widening access to Higher Education Exemplary stakeholder engagement skills, which enable you to influence a wide variety of people across the organisation to drive change Excellent leadership skills with the ability to drive outputs and communicate across the university Experience of and/or deep understanding of University admissions operations and regulations A track record of managing complex teams, motivating and enabling high performance and success, motivating and inspiring, and critically to embed a continuous improvement and team culture. An understanding of the role and criticality of data, with a strong track record of implementing innovative ideas and challenging existing assumptions
