Description :

The University of Nottingham is seeking to recruit two Counsellors to join the University Counselling Service (UCS) working with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) students. The UCS provides a free and confidential service for students and staff. The clinical team comprises practitioners working with a broad range of theoretical orientations. The FMHS has around 5300 undergraduate and 900 postgraduate students.

The successful candidates will be based at central teaching and placement locations, to facilitate easier access to counselling services for FMHS students.  FMHS students are from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Successful candidates must be accredited with the BACP or equivalent recognised professional body. The UCS adheres to the BACP Ethical framework 2018 and it's expected our counsellors will work to the framework standards.

The core service offered is individual short-term counselling. The role holder is expected to carry out consultation / initial appointments and short term counselling.  Additionally post 1 will also provide therapeutic groups and workshops to FMHS students as appropriate and as directed by the Faculty.

The successful candidates need to be/become fully acquainted with the Medical training curriculum framework, its assessment requirements, policies and timetabling in order to design a bespoke programme of workshops and 1:1 counselling provision.  They should also be aware of Fitness to Practise, Fitness to study, limits and application to Medical students, training will also be given.

The formation of reflective practice placement support groups for students is strongly recommended.  These groups would be facilitated by the Counsellor or suitably designated nominee at each site.  Attendance at these groups is seen as part of the programme of study for all medical students, sponsored by academic tutors and the School.
