Description :

This post is part of a research project relating to the indirect electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide to hydrocarbon products. It is funded by the European Research Commission as part of a five-year Starting Grant awarded to the PI. The postdoctoral researcher sought in this particular post will be focussed on the design and synthesis of electron donating electrolyte solutions, the design and fabrication of electrochemical flow cell reactors, and the synthesis and evaluation of homogeneous catalytic redox species. This project aims to preliminarily explore the potential of batch generated electron donor solution to reduce CO2 via a heterogenous catalyst, with a view to developing a process with higher energy density, efficiency, scalability, long-term stability, and low cost compared to traditional electrochemical methods. A key focus will be utilising sustainable and low-cost materials to achieve this goal.

You should have a PhD in chemistry or chemically-related sciences, coupled with experience in the design and fabrication of flow reactors or batch electrolysers, and a very good understanding of electrochemistry. Capability and confidence in synthetic chemistry is also essential, with evidence of experience in rational design of materials required in the application.

The role will include the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, the preparation of grant proposals and publications, and other laboratory related administrative roles to support the PI and her group. It is essential that you have experience and confidence in writing research articles and can evidence this in your application.

Lancaster University is consistently highly ranked (~top 10) in the UK university league tables. It is located on a beautiful campus in the North West of England close to the stunning Lake District National Park.

The Chemistry Department is committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address equality issues in higher education and research, and we warmly welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.

Informal e-mail enquiries prior to making an application are welcome, in which case contact Dr Kathryn Toghill k.toghill@lancaster.ac.uk

This is a fixed term appointment for 24 months.

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
