The University of Brighton is seeking to recruit a practice-focused academic for a full-time role with experience of teaching the core skills and knowledge required for contemporary Film and Media production. The role focuses on students at all levels across integrated degree courses: BA (Hons) Digital Film and BA (Hons) Media Production. Knowledge of current trends in the creative industries is essential along with experience in practical skills related to pre-production, production management and post-production. A strong background in undergraduate teaching experience is required and interest in practice-led research would also be advantageous, particularly in one or more of the following areas: contemporary documentary, interactive or live cinema, screening history/memory/identity.

Core elements of the role include:

To add to and expand the student-focused teaching expertise in the areas of film and media production.

To contribute to practice teaching on a range of practice modules within the School of Media (which may include): Filmmaking Fundamentals, Production Management, Making the Short Film Documentary Filmmaking.

To be able to translate key skills and knowledge of industry practice to a diverse student cohort.

To foster new relationships with commercial institutions that will enhance student opportunities.

To be adept at teaching technical aspects of production using relevant technology, to foster organisational skills around production management, and to nurture creativity and artistic flair.

The successful candidate will join the School of Media’s Film and Screen strand based at the Edward Street campus. In a city with a wealth of creative and digital enterprise, the School has built a strong set of pedagogic and enterprise relationships with key media and arts organisations, including Screen Archive South East and the Brighton Film Festival “CineCity”.
