Laboratory Assistants work as part of a large Technical Team who provide teaching and research support for our students, academics and other staff, as part of our Science Faculty.

The range of duties for laboratory assistants can include assisting in the setting-up and clearing away of practical classes, collecting glassware and other laboratory materials for washing or sterilisation, preparing and supplying basic laboratory materials, laboratory housekeeping, autoclaving and the distribution of various materials and supplies across the departments.

This post will be based predominantly in our Biology & Biochemistry teaching facilities. 

You will also contribute to the smooth running of the departments’ communal research facilities including the autoclaves, wash–up facilities, glasshouses, waste stores, solvent delivery and organism facilities. It is also part of the role to assist with general laboratory support tasks, laboratory set-ups, laboratory clear-outs, PAT testing, basic Health and Safety, equipment set-up and supporting staff in their research laboratories. 

Full training will be provided in all aspects of the post, however, an interest in Science, flexibility, efficiency, great communication skills and attention to detail are essential.

This is a full-time role, (36.5 hours per week) working term-time only (37.5 weeks per year).
