The Faculty of Engineering and Design is looking to appoint a Senior Technician to provide specialist technical support in electronic and instrumentation to our workshops and laboratories, covering both teaching and research activities. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing technical support for research rigs, advising and assisting students, staff, and researchers in the development, design, and construction of equipment and prototypes, and contributing to project activities by assisting with practical instruction of undergraduate and postgraduate students and researchers. Additional responsibilities include the maintenance, general housekeeping and assisting with the management of safety systems throughout our dedicated workshop and laboratory facilities.

You will work closely with customers in order to identify and understand their requirements, and to deliver innovative solutions to satisfy these. As part of the Instrumentation team, you will work with technical staff and other colleagues across the Faculty to maintain and deliver a high quality support service to the teaching and research efforts of the university’s engineering departments.

Applicants should be qualified to GCSE level and ideally hold a BTEC Higher National Certificate / Diploma level in electronics and be able to demonstrate competence and experience in electronics and instrumentation systems. Previous experience of working within a higher education or research environment would be an advantage.
