Category: Academic | Faculty/Division: Faculty of the Arts, Design and Media | School: Birmingham School of Architecture and Design | Department: Birmingham School of Architecture and Design | Location: Parkside | Post Type: Part Time | Closing Date: 06 Nov 2019 |   Joining the Birmingham School of Architecture and Design as a Lecturer in Technical Studies, you will be responsible for supporting the School’s Director of Technical Studies in the delivery of our technical strategy principally across Architecture and Interior Architecture and Design, but also at times Landscape Architecture, and Product and Furniture Design. You will also be expected to contribute to our new BA Design for Future Living course which is in partnership with MOBIE which features elements of sustainable design, off site manufacturing and prototyping. The successful candidate will have practical experience and/or research profile in technical resolution and ideally with experience in the application of environmental and sustainable techniques and systems to help the School respond to the climate emergency declaration. Working with the Technical Studies team you will be expected to run various aspects of technical studies, for example, structural, environmental / sustainable design, construction, and materiality, via lectures, seminars, and also design studio. We will look to you to ensure an excellent student experience through the use of relevant and inspiring learning, teaching, and assessment methods. You will also provide support and mentoring to individual students via our personal tutor system. Previous teaching experience is highly desirable and industry experience is also welcomed. You should also have excellent design, communication, and organisational skills. Other duties and opportunities may include assisting with cross School teaching and activities such as live project modules and superstudio, organising and leading student trips, research and/or enterprise work, and contributing to our overseas teaching commitments with our international partners.
