Can you evidence the technical skills required to support individuals accessing workshop facilities associated with wood? Do you have a good understanding of the support skills required to facilitate SME’s to develop and prototype ideas for new products and can you demonstrate an awareness of collaborative maker spaces? We are looking for a Senior Technician, Digital, to join a team of Senior Technicians working across Wood, Metal, Print and Immersive Technologies to provide specialist expertise and professional understanding to ensure the successful management of STEAMhouse’s production workshop activity. You will have expertise acrossdigital prototypingand will work with STEAMhouse users to help them prototype ideas and develop innovative new products. You will actively engage in research by working with users to develop new production techniques, test innovative ways to use materials and processes and explore collaborative/open approaches to product development. You will approve use of the STEAMhouse production workshops and will assist SME’s with the production of prototypes as part of their business planning process.The postholder will work across the Challenge, Product and Open Access Routes, delivering high-level technical expertise in making, prototyping, craft, design and informed experimentation; produce business action plans with SME’s; support the development of products in the production workshops; liaise with the STEAMhouse Directors, STEAMhouse Manager, Challenge Workshop Broker, Creative Director, prototyping/operations Manager and the wider staff team to ensure all STEAMhouse’s programmes are delivered and monitored effectively. The role will have overall responsibility for the management of one of the five production workshops (Digital). You will work with SME users and provide expertise in a wide range of production techniques allowing them to make use of resources across the facility. The postholder will work with the Creative Director, Prototyping/Operations Manager and Programme Manager to manage the workshop equipment and will be involved in practical aspects equipment maintenance and the procurement of new equipment items and consumables.  You will also be involved with scheduling installation of equipment and managing in-house production of furniture and fittings where specified. This post is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The position is full time. Shortlisted candidates will be expected to undertake a short presentation during the interview.
