Main Purpose of the Post 

This post is for a Research Assistant to work with Dr Pamela Ugwudike on a research project funded by the Web Science Institute at the University of Southampton. The study is exploring howfamilies affected by crime and punishment engage with social media and whether the marginalisation of this group as noted in criminological scholarship, is being reproduced in online spaces. A key aim is to explore how to enhance the social media participation and digital inclusion of socially marginal groups.

The post holder will work with Dr Ugwudike to: analyse social media data using qualitative and quantitative social research methods; and produce outputs describing the results of research.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities 

1.To conduct social science research using quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis. 

2.To maintain a record of incoming data. 

3.To disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed journal articles, and at seminars, conferences and other similar events when required.

4.To develop, plan, and execute projects within Dr Ugwudike’s wider agenda which is to conduct research in youth justice and adult criminal justice services, and to work with criminal justice stakeholders to develop collaborative research projects.

Generic Duties and Responsibilities

To undertake research under the supervision of the award holder, Dr Pamela Ugwudike.

Additional Information:

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
