Description :

The Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), based at Southampton General Hospital, manages a growing portfolio of multi-centre clinical trials that will directly influence routine clinical practice.

Due to expansion we have a vacancy for a Senior Medical Statistician to join the existing team of eleven statisticians working in the unit. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with previous relevant experience to join a CTU which has full registration status from the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) and is a CRUK supported Clinical Trials Unit.

The successful applicant will be an experienced medical statistician with a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in statistics or another relevant discipline.

The post holder will be responsible for the statistical development, oversight and analysis of a portfolio of SCTU clinical trials. This will include exploring novel statistical methodology to design and analyse studies aimed at identifying markers of therapeutic sensitivity.  The post holder will be expected to develop a national profile as a clinical trials statistician and take on a leading role in shaping the SCTU portfolio of studies.

The employing organisation is the University of Southampton which offers a competitive salary, pension scheme and other benefits.  The post is offered on a 12 month fixed term contract in the first instance with the possibility of an extension.

The SCTU is part of a strong research environment in Southampton which includes the Cancer Research UK Clinical Centre, Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility and strong NHS R&D Management.
