Description :

Staffordshire University is on a journey to become the foremost modern higher education institution in the UK, with an international reputation for excellence, and we are looking for inspirational and effective people to take us to the next stage.

In 2018 we broke in to the World University rankings for the first time and were named as a top 50 UK university by the Guardian. The quality of our student experience has placed us in the top 10 for teaching quality in the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 and in 2019  we achieved a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework.

Many of our students come from areas with low rates of participation in higher education and we continually strive to ensure the courses we offer meet the needs of people and employers. We are expanding our non-traditional, flexible study options, particularly in apprenticeships serving the public sector.

You can join us at a time when we begin the next step of our transformation journey. The new £40m Catalyst Building will deliver 6,500 new apprentices in the next decade, boosting both the local and national economy. The development of our offer to new academic areas and geographic locations will see us expand our reach and make an innovative offer to a new generation of students.

We are a university of and for our community: local, national and global. If you share our values and have the skills to deliver our vision, we want to hear from you.

Staffordshire University has an exciting opening within our HR & OD team for an experienced generalist HR practitioner who would like the opportunity to work in a role encompassing a broad range of HR and recruitment activities.

You will be working as part of a small team in a "hands on" role in which you will be the first point of contact for stakeholders seeking advice and guidance on a range of employment issues, escalating more complex issues or concerns to the HR Operations Manager or relevant HR Business Partner as appropriate. You will provide best practice HR advice in support of all aspects of the employee lifecycle including recruitment, sickness absence, contractual queries, flexible working, HR policies and procedures.

You will need to have demonstrable previous HR and recruitment experience with an up to date practical knowledge of employment law. In this role there will be a particular focus on supporting recruitment activity which will include assisting with recruitment campaigns and providing advice and practical guidance on developing adverts, job descriptions and person specifications across a wide range of vacancies within the university.  It is important that you have an interest in recruitment, backed up by experience of dealing with the full recruitment cycle.  It would also be desirable for you to have an understanding of immigration regulations.  You will work alongside the HR Operations Manager to continue to develop and evolve recruitment processes with a focus on how to further utilise technology to enhance the hiring process for both candidates and recruiting managers.

A proficient multi-tasker with the ability to manage a diverse workload, you will work effectively under pressure within a very busy environment, with minimum supervision. You will be capable of using your initiative to resolve queries, but will know when to seek advice and will work effectively in a team to support colleagues. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator who is able to guide and influence managers, providing effective and pragmatic advice and solutions.  We need someone who is a team player but who is also capable of working independently.  You must be able to build and maintain good working relationships with a range of stakeholders from across our academic and professional services areas.

We are a very busy department; there is always a lot going on and we think this is a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a new challenge.
