An opportunity has arisen within the Central Engineering Workshop (CEW) and Engineering Stores for an individual to join our technical team. These facilities support work undertaken by Faculty of Engineering staff and students on both University Park and Jubilee Campuses. This role would support skilled technicians in the CEW working alongside and supporting their activities, the role would also undertake duties within the Stores.

It is key that the role holder is keen to learn and develop in the role, this will be encouraged and expected. A flexible approach, willingness to learn and develop new practical and professional skills alongside the ability to communicate are all essential. 

The two main elements to the role are as follows:

Central Engineering Workshop

Maintenance of workshop and machinesSupporting staff in work as directedMoving equipment and materialsBasic manufacture as skills allow/develop

Stores

Counter service, issuing items to staff and studentsReceiving deliveriesMaking deliveries between sites using Faculty vanUndertaking stock checksUsing engineering machinery to cut materials for issue

Candidates should have a good standard of education evidenced by up to five GCSEs (grade C and above) or equivalent, demonstrating numeracy and literacy or previous work experience in a relevant role. A full clean driving licence is essential. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate a basic level of practical skill and general IT knowledge.

In addition to this, knowledge of machine tool operation, any relevant engineering qualification and/or any experience of working in a Stores environment and/or knowledge of stock control would be desirable.

This role is available on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours). Job share arrangements may be considered.
