Please Note: This position is only open to current Birmingham City University undergraduate  students within the Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences seeking a placement year . 

Birmingham City Business School are looking for an enthusiastic person to join the vibrant  Business Development Team as a Business Development Assistant (12-month placement).  

The main aspect of the role is to provide support for the SME Business Development and Enterprise function in the faculty.  This support will cover a variety of activities the faculty has in place to work with SME businesses and organisations in order to offer a range of benefits to students, staff, faculty, the University, businesses and the community.  You will be a key support to the successful SME Engagement Programme which is currently underway within the Business School and the wider University.

Specifically, the post holder will be required:    

To support the SME Engagement team – Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Database, The Professor of SME Growth and Development and the Business Engagement Manager– in all aspects of their work including data acquisition/analysis, handling enquiries and signposting/forwarding information to appropriate colleagues.To take minutes of the Business development/Enterprise Team meetings and other meetings located within the Business School.To provide support when required, for responding to and following other faculty business enquiries and communications; including appropriate signposting and forwarding of external communications, internal staff communications, student communications and liaison with Student Union as appropriate.To support the Executive Education function in terms of administration and logistics. Activities to include: processing invoices, ordering catering, updating records when applicable and to undertake other duties as required from Academics. To work with appropriate Programme Leaders and the Marketing Team to provide support, for the marketing of Birmingham City Business School (BCBS) courses and services to SMEs including, full suite of business collaborative offerings.  This will include producing ­­­­marketing materials and working with faculty staff to ensure course information is up to date.To provide support for undertaking digital marketing of the faculty, business services, events and courses – through the BCBS website, social media and other online channels.To provide support for faculty events (internal and external) and particularly those relating to SME engagement activity; to include planning, organising, staffing and follow-up activity.To arrange meetings and events as required, including organising travel arrangements, car hire, car parking, and hotel bookings and catering following Departmental and University guidelines and procedures. To organise hospitality for visitors and guests and delivering it with a professional and high level of customer service at all times.To support the Placements and Employability Centre specifically by sourcing of new project, internship and placement opportunities.To professionally promote the Business Service portfolio and other Business School initiatives at networking events and exhibitions representing the face of Birmingham City Business School and BCU as a whole.  To undertake regular stock take of Promotional Merchandise, reorder stock when required and to source new promotional merchandise when applicable. Maintaining full records of stock requests.To provide administrative, secretarial and clerical support to the business services function including maintaining the CRM system and providing updates to the various business sections of the faculty.To work with database and filing systems, creating and maintaining computerised and manual filing lists and ensuring databases are maintained and accurate.Working towards first degree in a Business related subject at Birmingham City University GCSE Maths and English or equivalentGood IT skills Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people face to face, on the telephone and in writing. Able to work effectively as part of a team as well as under own initiativeWillingness to develop new skills and undertake training
