We are looking for an experienced researcher whose expertise lies in electrophysiology modelling, to work with Prof. Gary Mirams on a Wellcome Trust-funded project entitled “Developing cardiac electrophysiology models for drug safety studies”.  The central aim of our project is to create and use new techniques to build reliable and predictive ion channel and cellular action potential electrophysiology models, and to use these to investigate pharmaceutical drug safety.

You will be able to carry out research of a high standard, and evidence through your experience how you will undertake original research of international excellence. It will be key that you prepare your work for publication in leading journals, and contribute to its distribution at national and international meetings. 

You will be an organised researcher who can evidence:

A PhD, or equivalent, in mathematics or a relevant branch of mathematics, statistics, control engineering, physics or a closely related discipline.Expert knowledge of:Ion channel modelling (Hodgkin-Huxley and Markov models),Model training/fitting and validation,Development of software for these tasks.Excellent communication and organisational skills.The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.Ability to devise, advise on and manage a research programme. Ability to create and apply relevant research approaches, models, techniques and methods.Proven track-record in publishing research work of international quality

This is a full-time position (36.25 hours per week), available from 1st May 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The job is offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 36 months. Job share arrangements may be considered.
