Description :

Applications are invited for the post of Research Assistant in Molecular Biology/Genetics based in the Milner Centre for Evolution, Department of Biology & Biochemistry at the University of Bath; one of the UK’s most prestigious universities.

Undertaking research in a vibrant, inter-disciplinary research environment with an excellent international reputation, you will work as a key member of a research team investigating chromosome organisation in plants and fungi.

Our lab investigates genome organisation, epigenetic gene regulation and chromosome architecture, and we aim to better understand how gene order affects gene regulation, and how co-ordinate transcriptional regulation is achieved.

We are seeking a skilled molecular biologist to contribute to developing CRISPR/Cas9 in A. thaliana and apply a recently established chromosome conformation capture protocol to filamentous fungi. Additional responsibilities include lab organisation, thorough record keeping and technical support for ongoing research projects; working closely with the group leader and two PhD students.

This is an excellent opportunity for a molecular biologist wishing to apply their skills to an innovative area of science. The position is supported by a grant of the Royal Society and is associated with generous research funds.

You should have a BSc in Molecular Biology/Genetics or a related discipline, excellent molecular biology skills and be interested to work at the cutting-edge of plant and fungal molecular genetics. Experience in one or more of the following will be beneficial:

DNA molecular biologyplant/fungal maintenancefungal molecular biology/geneticsplant molecular biology/geneticsplant genetic manipulation (e.g. CRISPR, transgenesis)

This is a full-time role for a fixed-term (13 months). The position is primarily lab-based and the start date may be adjusted in line with official government guidelines around the current pandemic.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Dr Nuetzmann (hwn25@bath.ac.uk), however, please ensure that your application is submitted via the University website.
