The Department of Linguistics and English Language at Lancaster University seeks to appoint a Senior Research Associates to work full time for 12 months in the ESRC Research Centre for Corpus Approaches to Social Science. The Centre was founded in 2013 and was awarded a Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Further and Higher Education in 2015. Its current ESRC-funded core research programme focuses on corpus approaches to health communication. 

You will have a PhD in Linguistics or a related area, a track-record of conference presentations and publications commensurate with your career stage, and experience both in the linguistic study of health(care) communication and in the use of corpus methods in the analysis of language and texts. Experience with coding will be advantageous. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team that includes academics from the Departments of Linguistics & English Language, Politics, Philosophy & Religion, Psychology, and the Institute for Health Research. 

You will conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses on a range of different types of corpus data relating to health(care), including particularly discussions of depression on social media, and present the results of the analyses to both academic and non-academic audiences through different media. 

This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months.
