Information Services are looking to appoint an IT Operations Support Engineer specialising in Linux/Unix environments with the ability to provide operational support for a range of platforms in a large and complex IT infrastructure. You will play a key role in contributing towards the on-going support, maintenance, design, development and management of our core IT services. 

As an IT Operations Support Engineer, you will assist in providing day-to-day administration, technical support, advice and guidance of our Linux/Unix environments and related storage systems, Linux management automation (for instance Puppet, Ansible, etc), Apache, DNS (Bind). You will also possess relevant skills/experience in supporting Linux Server Operating Systems (Centos, Red Hat, Ubuntu) and Unix Server Operating Systems such as Solaris (desirable skill) in an enterprise environment. Also desirable are skills in SAN technologies, Azure/AWS, LDAP, Scripting (e.g. Bash), VMWare, Exim, Linux-based HPC and MySQL.

Your background will involve experience in managing and supporting Linux/Unix environments in an enterprise scale organisation on both physical and virtual hosts. You would benefit from a broad understanding of a number of platforms, products, services and technologies with demonstrable recent experience in current versions, whilst having experience in the support, maintenance and configuration of infrastructure technologies.

Equally important is your approach to work, self-motivated with a willingness and demonstrable ability to learn, strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, good communication skills and the ability to work well under pressure. You will also be required to work on routine service requests and issue/ incident resolution within a structured IT Service Delivery Framework (ITIL).

As the successful candidate, you will have a HND/Degree level qualification or equivalent relevant experience.

This position is offered on a full time (36.25hrs per week), permanent contract. Job share arrangements may be considered.
