Research Description

As part of an active EPSRC Prosperity Partnership Programme (link), involving a collaboration between GlaxoSmithKline and the Universities of Nottingham and Strathclyde,  we are offering a 48-month PhD studentship in the development, and mechanistic investigation of, novel catalytic reactions for the synthesis of target molecules relevant to the pharmaceutical and related industries. This project will involve the development of advanced catalysis and synthesis and will be supervised by Ross Denton and Liam Ball. It will take place in the GlaxoSmithKline Carbon Neutral Laboratory (link) at the University of Nottingham, and will involve collaboration with scientists at GlaxoSmithKline and the University of Strathclyde.

This studentship is available in October 2020, funded through a stipend covering PhD tuition fees (at the Home/EU rate) and a tax-free living allowance (currently £15,009 per annum, increasing annually), pro-rata for part-time study. The student will gain expertise in organic synthesis and catalysis, and acquire skills in problem solving, spectroscopic analysis and scientific communication.
