Engineering is a strategically important area of investment for Lancaster University. An ambitious £50M, ten-year, plan is in place to develop our successful Engineering Department toward a world leading School of Engineering. Phase 1 concluded in 2015 with the opening of an award-winning £13 million new Engineering building, providing a world-class environment and facilities for teaching and research. Phase 2 is in progress and aims to deliver a second state of the art engineering building in August 2021.We are open to candidates in any areas of high frequency electronics, radiofrequency, microwaves and millimetre waves that complement the research and teaching strengths of the Department.

The Engineering Department is recognised for international excellence and world-leading research. The Department is ranked highly in national league tables; in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, 91% of research and 100% of impact in General Engineering was assessed as internationally excellent and world leading. The Department is 8th in the UK and 112th in the world for paper citations in QS World Ranking 2018. The Department has strong links with industry nationwide and works with a portfolio of hundreds of SMEs in the north-west of England alone, supported by the in-house Lancaster Product Development Unit (LPDU). We are open to candidates in any areas of digital electronics that complement the research and teaching strengths of the Department, but there could be a particular opportunity for the successful candidate to develop a research program in the area of Intelligent Control, a topic that is at the heart of many application domains, including robotics.

Lancaster University is campus-based offering a wide range of facilities on site including social amenities, a new sports centre, and a highly regarded pre-school centre.  A range of further benefits is also available to staff. The campus is situated on the outskirts of the city of Lancaster adjacent to the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and close to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National parks. Lancaster is approximately one hour from Manchester international airport. The city and the region are home to a variety of excellent schools and enjoy excellent public transport and national rail links.

We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address equality in higher education and research.
