Are you a practice-focused academic with experience of teaching the core skills and knowledge required for applying cutting-edge contemporary music and sound arts to new platforms, media and cultural contexts? If yes we would like to hear from you.

Focusing on students across our BA (Hons) Digital Music And Sound Arts course it is essential that you have knowledge of current discourses in arts and media studies as well as trends in the creative industries, along with a strong portfolio in the fields of innovative digital music production, sound design for moving image and video games and sound arts practices. A background in undergraduate teaching and practice-led research are also required, as are the skills to work within a team and to effectively time manage and meet pressing deadlines.

Core elements of the role include:

To add to and expand the student-focused teaching expertise in the areas of digital music and sound arts.To contribute to teaching on a range of theory and practice modules within the BA Digital Music and Sound Arts course (which may include): Historical and Critical Studies in Contemporary and Experimental Music and Sound Arts, Sound Organisation, Creative Audio Systems, Sound Art Practices, Sound for Moving Image, Sound Design for Video Games.To be able to translate key skills and knowledge of industry practice to a diverse student cohort.To foster new relationships with commercial and cultural institutions that will enhance student opportunities.To be adept at teaching technical aspects of digital music and audio-visual production as well as sound art practices and using relevant technology, to foster organisational skills around course management and curriculum delivery, and to nurture creativity and artistic flair to our student community.To be able to inspire and drive the creative vision of the course and the team.To survey, maintain and support all academic processes.To conduct and develop own research and practice.

The successful candidate will join the School of Media’s Sound Image Screen programme based at our Edward Street campus. In a city with a wealth of creative and digital enterprise, the School has built a strong set of pedagogic and enterprise relationships with key media and arts organisations, including Brighton Digital Festival, Screen Archive South East and the Brighton Film Festival “CineCity”.

This is a part-time permanent post.
