Applications are invited for the post of part-time e-Learning Technologist (0.5 FTE) to take forward and implement an exciting new online learning strategy of the National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM). NCRM has been funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) since 2004 and currently has funding until Dec 2024. The post will be based at the University of Southampton.

The post holder will apply their expert knowledge of learning technologies to support the development of high quality, accessible content and learning modules for the research methods training delivered by NCRM’s co-investigators and commissioned contributors. They will use their technical and pedagogical knowledge to assist NCRM’s trainers to best use available technologies to support learners’ needs and continually develop and enhance the Centre’s online and blended training portfolio. The post holder will develop the NCRM house style for online and blended learning, both by creating best practice guidance and module templates, and by developing the NCRM online pedagogic approach more broadly. Working alongside the Centre’s IT Manager, they will administer the Centre’s Virtual Learning Platform (currently Moodle) and will work closely with NCRM co-investigators and NCRM professional staff. They will engage with end users and other stakeholders including other ESRC infrastructure investments.

Educated to skill level equivalent to achievement of HND, Degree, NVQ4 or basic professional qualification, the post holder will have high-level expertise in a range of relevant learning technologies, including content authoring, collaborative learning tools, Virtual Learning Environments (e.g. Moodle), excellent IT skills, proven pedagogic understanding and knowledge, and a track record in producing accessible online courses and resources. The post holder will also have excellent ability to work with multiple content authors and stakeholders simultaneously. 

NCRM’s remit is to deliver a comprehensive national programme of cutting-edge research methods training across the UK to advance methodological practice in the social sciences and beyond, across all disciplines and sectors. NCRM is a collaborative partnership between three main institutions: the University of Southampton, Manchester and Edinburgh. It is now joined by a further nine Centre partners across the UK.
