Applications are invited for the above EU funded post within the Buildings, Energy and Environment (BEE) Research Group to investigate affordable solutions for rapid retrofit of residential buildings (Surefit). The project will demonstrate fast-track renovation of existing domestic buildings by integrating innovative, cost-effective, and environmentally-conscious prefabricated technologies. The candidate should have the necessary theoretical and practical skills in some or all of the areas of aerogel insulation, phase change material, solar thermal and photovoltaic, vacuum glazing, heat recovery, heat pumps and evaporative coolers. He/she needs to provide leadership and be able to drive the project forward. The BEE Research Group has an international reputation for excellence across a broad range of sustainable energy technologies encompassing low carbon buildings, building retrofit, HVAC, energy storage and renewable energy in the built environment. The Group has extensive research facilities including the Creative Energy Homes and state-of-the-art facilities for sustainable technologies. 

Candidates must hold (or about to complete) a PhD degree in an appropriate field (for example, thermal energy systems, building services engineering, mechanical engineering or chemical engineering). They should also have sound expertise in modelling and experimentation of thermal energy systems.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31st August 2024. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours). Job share arrangements may be considered.
