Description :

Universities need to address the most pressing challenges faced by society and can only do so by working at scale. The GW4 Alliance is working to address the challenges of Net Zero and Anti-microbial Resistance, amongst others.

These examples need shaping, facilitating and catalysing. We are looking for an exceptional talent to achieve this by interacting with senior staff and academics in the four universities, with government departments, funders, communities and businesses.

As Interim Director, your role is to continue to co-shape the future of the unique alliance between four of the nation’s foremost research-intensive universities: Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter.

Responsible for leading and managing this major research powerhouse, you will convert concepts into funded activities. Crucially, you will promote our initiatives at the highest level across a host of stakeholder organisations in diverse sectors.

To be equal to the challenge, you will need an extensive track record of success in building strategic and influential relationships with policy makers, funders and governments. Direct experience of research and innovation partnerships spanning a range of science, social science, arts and humanities disciplines is vital. We expect you to demonstrate a proven ability to deliver large, collaborative projects within a complex environment.

Naturally, you also will bring to the role substantial leadership experience in higher education, with up-to-the minute knowledge of research and policy. For an informal discussion about this opportunity, please contact in the first instance, Bristol’s Executive Director of Research & Enterprise, Dr Jon Hunt at jon.hunt@bristol.ac.uk

Further discussion can take place with the Chair of the GW4 Board, Professor Jonathan Knight at j.c.knight@bath.ac.uk.
