The Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU) is based at University Hospitals Southampton NHS Trust within the Faculty of Medicine and coordinates numerous high quality multi-centre clinical trials and other well designed studies that will directly influence routine clinical practice. It is a Cancer Research UK core funded, UKCRC registered clinical trials unit that also receives funding from the NIHR.

The research environment in Southampton includes the Cancer Research UK Clinical Centre, Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility, Biomedical Research Unit, NIHR Research Design Service, and strong NHS R&D Management.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Statistician within the CTU. This post provides an exciting opportunity to make important contributions to clinical research. You will provide statistical oversight for studies/trials assigned within the Clinical Trials Unit and will be responsible for all statistical aspects of clinical trials within the CTU portfolio of studies. The post holder will supervise medical statisticians working on all aspects of the CTU clinical trials. You will develop links with investigators throughout the UK to develop new phase II and III trials. You will be joining a busy, motivated and highly regarded team of 12 statisticians.

Successful applicants will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience in statistics or another relevant discipline as well as  experience in the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of clinical trials and other well designed studies, be competent with either STATA or SAS and have excellent organisation and communication skills.

The position is available for 24 months in the first instance. The salary offered within the range will depend on experience. The post is available on a full time basis and will be based within the SCTU at Southampton General Hospital.
