Research Assistant/Associate/Fellow - Food Systems Learning-Support Specialist (fixed term) (SCI319120)

We are seeking a candidate with interests in developing new learning environments in food systems. The role holder, who will have a post-graduate qualification, will join a close-working, multidisciplinary and international team on the MAPS project. They will contribute to the development of new university modules appropriate for use in multiple countries, and professional community-of-practice learning resources. This will include the development of user-centred approaches and open-source web delivered learning and examination tools.

The MAPS project (Micronutrient Action Policy Support) is a major investment by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF). It aims to develop an online tool to enable a range of stakeholders to engage with data on dietary micronutrient supply and status in food systems. The tool will allow exploration of spatial factors affecting micronutrient supply, and the linking of data with other modelling tools to allow the assessment of policies and interventions. The tool includes user-support embedded throughout its design, and will form the core of new learning resources, from undergraduate through to professional-level courses.

The role holder will contribute to the development of MAPS tool and learning resource interfaces through digital and interview/workshop approaches. This will include the development of a university level education platform, working with colleagues to enable links between the tool and educational resources, support module convenor(s), and organise testing/evaluation of the system. Similar approaches will be used to create professional development content.

The role will require close working with project colleagues across the disciplines of agriculture, human nutrition, economics, as well as agricultural ethics, (geo)statistical, data architecture and web-development specialists. The successful candidate can, for this reason, come from any background in these food systems disciplines, or education. A capacity to communicate with partners and to contribute proactively to the project goals is critical, along with a willingness to engage with external stakeholders.  At the same time the project will offer the opportunity to contribute ideas and support collaborative publications.

The post is offered on a full time (36.25 hours per week), fixed term contract until 31 October 2023. Job share arrangements may be considered.
