Description :

What really happens in secondary school teaching: an international comparison using data from the 2012, 2015 and 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA)

A fully funded studentship awarded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership (SCDTP) commencing in 2021/22 Academic Year.

In this project you will use data from the three Programmes for International Student Assessments (PISA) to compare teaching practices, school learning environments, resources invested in education, and affective student characteristics from more than 50 countries. You will use advanced quantitative methods that will consider the hierarchical nature of the data (data from students in schools in countries) and the complex sampling design of the data. The results will give an insight into global differences in international schooling that will feed into recommendations for future teaching and learning strategies.

1st Dr Christian Bokhove, Southampton Education School, C.Bokhove@soton.ac.uk. 2nd Prof Tony Kelly, Southampton Education School, A.kelly@soton.ac.uk
