British South Asian entrepreneurial narratives: Investigating dynamics of locally- specific histories and networks and their potential for post-Brexit Britain 

A fully funded studentship awarded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership (SCDTP) commencing in 2021/22 Academic Year.

We invite applications from motivated students with a basic training in and understanding of both quantitative methods of data analysis and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis, to work in the area of entrepreneurship, business history and strategy. This is an interdisciplinary research project that will focus on British South Asian entrepreneurs. The overarching goals are three-fold: i) to systematically capture, collate and document the early migration experiences; ii) to understand barriers and drivers of business growth; iii) the significance of South Asian entrepreneurial networks for future trade relationships between the UK and South Asia in the post- Brexit world.

Skills Required

Basic training in social science research methods. Interest in transnational, immigrant and diaspora entrepreneurship and British South Asian histories.

Funding

South Coast DTP Funding provides an annual maintenance grant (tax free) of £15285 (2020/21 UKRI rate), plus payment of programme fees.  Other funding available for SCDTP funded students can be found on the SCDTP website (www.southcoastdtp.ac.uk).

Funding is provided for 3 years full-time PhD study (pro-rata for part-time students).  Applications for 1+3 funding for students completing a Master's year prior to the commencement of PhD study are also welcome (details available at www.southcoastdtp.ac.uk).
