Description :

Prosthetic and Orthotic Service Provision in LMICS: Access, Benefits and Sustainability

A fully funded studentship awarded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership (SCDTP) commencing in 2021/22 Academic Year.

In LMICs there is a high demand for Prosthetic and Orthotic (P&O) services, but little is known about inequalities in access to services, nor the benefits of the devices to individuals and society. Further, the support that P&O users need is not well-researched, affecting the sustainability of services. This mixed methods study will examine these questions in five countries of South-East Asia using data from Exceed Worldwide and in-person interviews, with a focus on Cambodia. The interdisciplinary PhD will enable graduates to pursue careers in academic, government, NGO and for-profit sectors within the areas of Assistive Technologies and/or Data Science.
