UWL is now ranked 34th in the UK – our highest position of any league table ever! We were also the top university in England for teaching satisfaction and the ranking reaffirms our position as the top modern university in London.  

In addition, UWL has been named University of the Year for Student Experience in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021.

The School of Law

The School of Law is an active, progressive and innovative school.  It has focussed on the teaching of the practice of law, at undergraduate and postgraduate level. It places an emphasis on the development of the student, with a focus on employability, and seeks to place law in context, teaching not only the basic statute and case law but also the legal decision making processes. We are committed to active teaching methods, high standards and the personal and professional development of our students. The School has seen a rapid rise in the rankings and for the last four years has had an exceptionally high overall satisfaction rate in the NSS survey. It was ranked 15th in The Guardian in the UK for 2021; and 4th in England for teaching quality and student experience (the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021).

The Role 

The Post holder will be expected to teach a range of modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level; support the development of courses in the School of Law and contribute to the research and publication profile of the department.

The Person

Higher degree or professional qualification in an appropriate discipline Substantial experience of teaching on academic and/or professional training courses Knowledge of three of the following: tort law, civil litigation, international human rights, contract law, commercial arbitration and mediation, commercial law, international arbitration and financeExperience of teaching in higher educationAbility to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a team with shared goalsMember of professional bodies

Additional Information 

We welcome applications from individuals who do not have a fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). Should you be successful and do not hold an HEA fellowship you will be asked to complete one within 2 years of appointment as a condition of your continued employment. Depending on eligibility this may take the form of an advanced Level 7 apprenticeship in teaching which means that you will spend 20% of your work in off-the-job study.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. 

Please be advised that it is expected that appointment within a grade will normally be at the minimum point.
