Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Physical Chemistry (CC8322)

The Department of Chemistry is seeking a Lecturer in Physical Chemistry.

You will have an excellent track record and be able to demonstrate the potential for internationally leading expertise in physical chemistry, preferably in the field of sustainable chemical technologies, energy materials, soft matter and/or analytical chemistry. The ability to teach physical chemistry in both lectures and laboratory classes is essential, and the ability to interact with and complement existing research within the department will be an advantage.

You will be expected to hold a PhD (or be close to submitting your thesis) and to have a developing or established international reputation for high quality publications, backed up by appropriate research funding and activity. You will be expected to conduct an internationally leading research programme and to take a lead in obtaining significant funding from UK and international sources.

Contributing to teaching in physical chemistry at undergraduate and postgraduate levels you should have a continuing commitment to maintaining the University’s high standards in teaching and learning, with the ability to educate and inspire some of the brightest students in the country. You will also be expected to contribute to the administration, leadership and management of the Department’s activities commensurate with the level of the appointment.

The research statement needs to outline your plans and intentions for research activity and grant capture over the coming five years. This document will be treated in the strictest confidence and with full respect for ownership. The teaching vision should outline your areas of teaching expertise and a range of potential teaching subjects as well as course development interests. These are mandatory components of the selection process, without which we will be unable to progress your application.
