About the role

Staffordshire University are looking for a Brilliant and Friendly individual to join our Digital Services Networking Team in the role of Network Engineer. 

Working with the team you will be responsible for the provision of University wide voice and data services ensuring that the network is performing effectively to support our learning and teaching activity. 

On a daily basis you will be configuring, testing and installing Cisco network and telephony equipment, using industry standards and best practices, whilst using the management platform to monitor all services to ensure that they are working correctly. You will also be responsible for providing second line support for Incidents, Service Requests and Problems that arrive from our service desk.   With regular investigation and implementation of new technologies and services, you will influence the future direction of the network. 

Your role will cover support of the following areas: switching and routing, Wi-Fi & Location Analytics, IP Telephony and Contact Centre, Security (Firewalls, VPN and Identity Services Engine) and internet connectivity to our Azure Cloud and SAS services.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to work on a number of exciting new technology projects to assist Staffs to become the UK’s leading Digital University. This includes the design of our new Catalyst building which will use Cisco software defined networking to bring a new digital experience to its occupants and visitors, powered by the network. 

We are looking for a technically minded, forward thinking individual from an IT background with some knowledge and skills the field of networking. You will have exceptional communication and customer service skills and a passion for all things Digital to help us innovate and provide creative solutions for our customers at Staffordshire University.
