About the role:

As the technical expert you will work closely with academics to identify changing requirements and advances in technology. In this highly collaborative role, you will proactively engage with working groups and committees to ensure our facilities are both maintained and always at the cutting edge, to ensure our ambitious teaching and research objectives can be met.

You will provide insightful solutions, guidance and specialist support for teaching, research, and day-to-day operational troubleshooting by administering the Department’s servers and other key systems, configuring software and scripting to bring together systems that we use within our environment.  

About you:

You will have in-depth knowledge and experience of a Computer Science field, primarily Linux system administration.  You will be efficient, proactive, approachable, and meticulous by nature with an ability to bring understanding/clarity to complex challenges and provide solutions-based approaches. In-depth knowledge of Linux.Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.A desire to investigate issues and be ahead of technological advancements.An awareness of security and compliance considerations in the field.Desirable:  Experience of Docker and other container/virtualisation systems.Desirable:  The ability to design and maintain a heterogeneous (CPU & GPU) computer resource that need to be customisable by a variety users.
