This role is to act as the Senior Technical Specialist for Hydrogen Propulsion testing within the Zero Carbon Cluster. The Cluster has the ambition to be internationally leading in applied translational research in close collaboration with industry partners, with hydrogen propulsion identified as a key pathway for future growth covering multiple sectors (e.g. heavy transport such as aerospace, marine and off-road as well as stationary thermal power generation and microgrids). 

You will provide leadership and technical direction across all strands of Hydrogen Propulsion including test equipment specification, test operations management, validation process design and implementation and related liaison with industry partners and stakeholders. You would be the University leading technical expert in Hydrogen Propulsion Systems testing and validation. The specialist technical knowledge and experience will strongly influence decisions at all levels across the Cluster, the wider University and to national and international research partners. 

We are particularly looking for motivated individuals who have a flair for ingenuity and a problem-solving attitude. The successful candidates will be expected to manage a team of technicians to lead on the delivery of test, validation and manufacturing programmes related to developing Hydrogen Propulsion Systems. This includes the development of test processes to meet different industrial, automotive and aerospace standards. Candidates are also expected to have hands-on testing experience. 

You will have experience working with industry and be able to apply practical and innovative approach to underpin this initiative.

You will have ability to demonstrate the necessary strategic competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary professional knowledge and leadership experience in a similar or a number of different specialist roles. Advanced technical expertise in own scientific or technical specialism is desirable or a Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification or equivalent, with a broad range of professional experience in strategically important specialist areas.  

You can demonstrate abilities to collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams and projects including in the planning, tasking, resource management, liaison with partners, and dissemination of research results. You can also apply excellent research techniques and methodologies, use your communication skills, and have the ability to be a team leader.

This position will be offered on a fixed term, full time (36.25 hours per week) contract and will be available immediately. The post is initially available for two years, with the potential for extension. Job share arrangements may be possible.
