This year’s meeting theme is “Innovating Sustainability: Next Generation Energy and Quantum Devices and Their Characterization” and the goal of this mini symposium is to highlight the outstanding research coming out of the light sources. Recent rapid development and implementation of 4th generation synchrotron sources and free electron lasers opens further opportunities to study materials with highintensity, coherent X-ray beams. Development of new techniques, together with the improvement of more established approaches, allows unprecedented insight and holistic understanding of the structure, chemical environment, and electronic structure across a broad range of length scales from the atomic scale to macroscopic scales, over time scales from femtoseconds to minutes, hours and days in a variety of conditions from ultra-high vacuum to ambient pressure to high pressures. In this mini-symposium, we will highlight some recent scientific advances in characterizing energy conversion and storage materials, and quantum materials.
