The themes of the IAVCEI 2022 Scientific Assembly encompass the broad disciplines that seek to understand volcanism and magmatism, including natural processes, investigative techniques and the benefits and impacts to society. The scientific programme will be complemented and facilitated by the diverse context of the New Zealand volcanic environment, which will be highlighted across the activities of the scientific assembly.
Topics: I. Magmatism and tectonism II. Using field data, geophysics, geochemistry, statistics, and modeling to probe volcanic and plutonic systems III. Eruption triggers and styles: From precursors to eruption IV. Volatile influences on eruption style, degassing, atmospheric chemistry and climate V. Evaluating and communicating volcanic hazards and risks VI. Monitoring: developing new approaches and novel applications of existing technologies VII. Volcanoes, energy, resources and the environment VIII. Volcanoes and society: from indigenous peoples to a multicultural world IX. Future thinking - what's on the horizon that could be a game-changer?
