This vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only.

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Operations Manager to join our School’s team. You will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership, coordination and continuous improvement of professional services that underpin our teaching, research and knowledge exchange activity.

Working closely with the Senior Operations Manager, Academic Directors, and colleagues across Faculty and Central Professional Services, you will lead a small team of professional services staff to deliver seamless, high-quality operational support. You will play a key role in governance, planning, resource management and compliance, ensuring the School operates efficiently and in line with University policies and strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate operational activity across Core Operations and Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE), ensuring effective governance, assurance and compliance.Manage operational budgets, contribute to business cases and support effective financial control.Oversee local HR and finance processes, working closely with Faculty Business Partners.Support research activity by coordinating RKE operations, including REF preparation, research governance, ethics, PGR operations and research reporting.Line manage and develop professional services staff, supporting performance, recruitment and workforce planning.Lead or contribute to Faculty-wide projects and cross-cutting initiatives.Drive continuous improvement of systems, processes and ways of working.

About You

You will bring strong operational leadership experience, excellent organisational and communication skills, and the confidence to work independently in a complex environment. You will be skilled in planning, problem-solving, data analysis and stakeholder engagement, with a collaborative and empathetic approach to leadership.

You will have experience managing competing priorities, contributing to projects, monitoring KPIs and working with budgets. Experience within higher education professional services, and knowledge of research operations, REF or RKE activity, is desirable.
