This vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only.

Computer Science is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our Research Systems Team to support our world-class research and teaching in soft-robotics technology. Primarily based in the Computer Science building working across our robotics lab spaces and workshop, but also in the Cobot Maker Space (https://cobotmakerspace.org), this new and exciting post will be a key role in providing effective support to staff and students in the School working in soft robotics. In addition, this post will be responsible, with colleagues, for leading the planning and delivery of future developments in all areas of robotics in the School.  

As a key member of the Research Systems Team, key responsibilities include: 

 Assemble, maintain and repair robotic systems, electronics, sensors, actuators and microcontrollerâbased devices.  Support fabrication of softârobotic components using silicones, textiles, moulding and pneumatics.  Undertake CAD design, rapid prototyping, 3D printing and laserâcutting tasks.  Diagnose and resolve technical issues with lab equipment, robotics platforms and experimental setups.  Maintain COSHH documentation, risk assessments and safeâoperating procedures.  Train staff and students in the safe and effective use of equipment.  Collaborate with researchers to define technical requirements and support development of experimental systems.  Maintain documentation and contribute to development of laboratory processes.  

Ideally you will have:  

 Handsâon experience with robotics/mechanical hardware, electronics and mechanical assembly.Competence in C/Câlike microcontroller programming and Python.  Strong practical understanding of electronics, circuitry and diagnostic tools.  Experience with 3D printing, laser cutting and workshop equipment.  Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.  Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.  A willingness to develop expertise in softârobotic materials, pneumatics and fabrication methods. 

The post is offered on a Fixed Term basis. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. Job share arrangements may be considered.
