Based in Respiratory Medicine QMC the post is full time and fixed term until March 2018. The research program concerns the understanding the role of proteases in tissue remodelling in chronic lung disease and specifically how proteolysis relates to COPD phenotype. The post holder will be responsible for managing the research programme and performing laboratory work including: protein analysis, protease assays and other standard laboratory assay. The post holder will also be responsible for the management and logging of tissue and human cells and analysing and interpreting experimental data, contributing to day to day maintenance of laboratory including preparation of laboratory stocks, obtaining quotes for reagents and preparation of orders.

Applicants should have a BSc in Biochemistry / Biology or equivalent subject, a PhD in molecular and cell biology or close to completing, skills in common molecular biology techniques including PCR, plasmid construction, transfection. Excellent understanding of the underlying principles of immunohistochemical laboratory techniques, highly competent in protein analysis, including Western Blotting. Comprehensive understanding of Health and Safety legislation, high level organisational and time management skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Extensive research laboratory experience, ability to resolve routine work problems, plan and organise activities including purchasing and budget management. You should be an acknowledged member of biological research teams investigating cell biology with co-authorship of peer reviewed publications in the field of airway cell biology. You should have excellent IT skills, good team working skills and able to work flexibly.
