Post-Doc Researcher "Financial Atlas of the Netherlands" (1.0 FTE)

The Department of History and Art History seeks to appoint a post-doc researcher for the project “The Dynamics of Inclusive Finance in the Netherlands, 1750-1970”, funded by means of an NWO VICI grant awarded to Prof. Dr. Oscar Gelderblom. The Post-doc will be working on the project “A Financial Atlas of the Netherlands”.

The aim of this postdoc project is to develop analytical tools to describe, explain, and visualize the financial development of the Netherlands from 1850 to 1970. More specifically, the project analyzes the social and geographic diffusion of financial institutions. We want to know to what extent the use of particular financial services depended on the wealth and income of households and firms? And we want to know how the distance to greater and smaller financial centers influenced the financial institutions people used. With the answers to these questions we can create a Financial Atlas of the Netherlands in the 20th century that shows how the financial behavior of Dutch households and firms evolved over time and across space.
