Description :

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work at the forefront of research and science on the Horizon 2020 MC-SUITE project. The research is focussed on progressing manufacturing informatics as a multidisciplinary research theme at the interface between engineering, computer science, data analytics and operations management.

The role holder will work closely with other researchers from the Faculty of Engineering as well as with 7 industrial and 4 research project partners from various institutions across Europe. The MC-SUITE research project investigates how informatics can be integrated with traditional manufacturing techniques to develop future smart manufacturing systems by bringing together methods of data analysis, modelling, mathematical programming, physical simulations and experimental validation. We will specifically develop methods and a framework for effective collection, management and use of machining data in a cloud to enable new services for predictive machine maintenance, online process improvement and iterative optimisation. The role holder will be expected to develop new solutions for data filtering, analysis and decision making using data cloud services and experimental testing and validation at partners’ sites.

The successful candidate will be educated to PhD level (or about to obtain) or equivalent in engineering, computer science or in a related science field with experience and understanding of the technical areas covered by the MC-SUITE research project. Previous experience with Cloud based services, Hadoop, Apache Spark and R or Python are desirable but not essential.  Excellent communication skills, effective time management and ability to work both in a team and independently are essential.

This full-time post is available is available immediately and will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 30 September 2018.
