Research Associate (IRKE16-05)

This exciting post provides an opportunity for a researcher to join a multidisciplinary academic team for a large qualitative study of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) risk communication in NHS Health Check.

NHS Health Checks is a national programme that was implemented to identify and facilitate the reduction/management of CVD risk. This 18-month NIHR-funded study will use a range of qualitative research methods to explore use of different CVD risk calculators by those delivering NHS Health Checks. How these are used and the implications for clinician and patient perception of CVD risk, patient response, the associated advice or treatment offered by the clinician and patient intentions, will be explored. Video-recorded consultations will be subject to detailed qualitative analysis, with quantitative assessment of content. Novel video-stimulated recall (VSR) methods will then be used for patient and clinician interviews.

The successful applicant must be very competent in qualitative research methods, with experience of working with quantitative data and ideally have experience of large research projects, and research involving patients and health professionals. A post-graduate qualification in a relevant area is essential. The successful applicant should also be able to demonstrate good communication skills necessary for effective working with the range of academic and non-academic groups (e.g., health professionals, patients).

Under the supervision of senior research team members, the post holder will be involved in day-to-day data collection, analysis and other project activities. This will require an ability to work independently, effectively manage time, and work effectively as part of a large project team. Dissemination through written reports, peer-reviewed publication and oral presentations, will also be required.
