Description :

The Institute for Communication Systems (ICS) has a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic engineer or computer scientist to work on research software development. The successful candidate will work on the EU 5GPPP funded project Sat5G which is concerned with integrating a satellite terminal into our existing 5G test bed. The project involves 16 partners from across Europe including major companies, operators and research institutes.

At the 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC) at the University of Surrey we have one of the world’s first complete 5G test beds including both core network and radio access to 46 small cells around the campus. The core network has been virtualised according to the 5G, 3GPP network architecture and is supported by an existing test bed team of software developers. The successful candidate will work with this team to integrate a virtualised satellite terminal into the test bed and oversee demonstrations of 5G use cases over a live satellite link provided by Avanti.

We are looking for researchers with a flare for network software development and an interest in software defined networking and network function virtualisation. Software experience in C++/C#/Java are required but working with the software team the candidate will have opportunity to acquire SDN-opendaylight, NFV-openstack and MANO open BATON/OSM. There is no requirement for satellite knowledge as this will be provided by others.

If you think that you would like to join us in this cutting edge research project we would love to hear from, you. For an informal discussion you can contact Barry Evans (b.evans@surrey.ac.uk +441483 689131) or Y.Rahulan (y.rahulan@surrey.ac.uk)

Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£30,175) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate.  Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£31,076).
