We seek a Research Fellow in Commmunication Design, beginning February 1st 2018 for 18 months. They will take a leading role in the design of several interactive e-books with printed elements, in the domain of travel and tourism. The work is part of the Next Generation Paper project, and will be carried out under the supervision of Professor David Frohlich of Digital World Research Centre. The successful candidate will have a background in graphic and communication design, and an interest in multimedia documents and cross-media publishing.
Digital World Research Centre is an interdisciplinary centre conducting new media innovation projects with social and cultural benefit. It is based in the Department of Music and Media but is physically hosted within the Centre for Vision Speech and Signal Processing.

The Next Generation Paper project is a £1.17m project led by David Frohlich, running from 1st November 2017 for 30 months (https://www.surrey.ac.uk/digital-world-research-centre/news/next-generation-paper-award). The research focusses on how ordinary paper documents can be connected to the web through image recognition and/or embedded electronics sensing what page is open and where people are pointing. It will be creating a number of experimental books with interactive properties and the post-holder will contribute to the design of these.
