The post will be instrumental in championing compliance and data protection law across the University. The holder will be responsible for the delivery of a professional service, specialist advice and policy development to ensure compliance primarily with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998, the forthcoming General Data Protection Regulation 2018 and associated legislation. The Role The Data Protection Officer will be key to developing and improving the University’s Data Protection provisions and will provide advice and guidance to staff across all faculties and departments. A key aspect will be the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation and any other new information laws. The post holder will be expected to develop policy and procedures, maintain a privacy and data protection knowledge base, deliver presentations, and facilitate both face to face and on-line training to a wide audience University personal. The post holder will also assist with developing and maintaining the University’s Information Strategy and Information Governance policy and procedures and take responsibility for implementing and maintaining a new publication scheme and breach reporting systems.
