Description :

We are looking to expand the Graduate Academy embedded within the School of Computing and Communications (SCC).  These roles will support an exciting new digital health initiative at Lancaster University, part of Lancaster’s Health Innovation Campus.  This initiative focuses on innovation in healthcare by supporting Lancashire small businesses in the development of new digital product and service concepts.

As a part of the project team, you will enable innovative use of digital technology in a broad range of healthcare sectors, covering primary healthcare & social services to healthy lifestyle applications. You will contribute ideas and technical skills in the delivery of digital R & D projects working primarily with small business clients and the Graduate Academy team in SCC.  The role is not a typical development team position but offers the chance to gain experience in a range of projects developing digital prototypes for business clients.

Each project will be bespoke and you will be challenged to discover what healthcare service problems can be tackled using new and innovative digital technology.  We are not grounded in any one particular technology, and expect to utilise a mix of technologies and skills to gather, process and visualise data.

You will need to be able to demonstrate a range of practical technical skills in software development and programming.  Complementary skills in data science, data visualisation, user experience, cyber security etc. would be an advantage.   We are looking to build a broad technical team to creatively tackle healthcare problems with digital solutions.  No two client projects will be the same, so you must have the flexibility to adapt and quickly adopt new technical skills and approaches. Good communication skills are essential as is the ability to work with business to assess their requirements.  You will be creative in supporting business to innovate and develop new products and services through the application of the latest digital technology.  The ability to travel to meetings at client company locations throughout the region is essential.

For an informal discussion about the role, please get in touch with Stewart Kember, Graduate Academy Manager: kembers@lancaster.ac.uk.

This is a full-time fixed term post until December 2020 and is part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.  The post is advertised subject to final funders approval.

We particularly welcome applications from women for this role in order to increase our staff diversity in this part of the University.
