Description :

The University of Hull is part of a £7.6M EPSRC Prosperity Partnership: A New Partnership in Offshore Wind. This is an exciting new collaboration between the Universities of Hull, Sheffield and Durham with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (the world’s largest offshore wind turbine manufacturer) and Ørsted (the world’s largest offshore wind farm developer). The aim of this 5-year programme is to address fundamental research to reduce the levelised cost of electricity from offshore wind, and lay the foundation for the next generation of wind turbines and farms at a significantly higher level of power generation.

As part of this programme, the School of Engineering and Computer Science wishes to appoint a research assistant to work as part of the structures team to further develop and apply our specialist finite element code to the analysis of novel blade designs. This will include the introduction of new material capabilities and specialist optimization routines, together with validation and testing of the software.

The successful applicant will have a BSc, BEng or MEng in Computer Science or similar, and ideally a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline. S/he must have significant experience in software development, especially using C++, and ideally familiarity with PARAVIEW and/or high performance computing.
